Prow of canoe, Boroi village, Ramu River.

Owned by Laru Tokbo and made by his father Davang (of Murik clan) after WWII.

A fragment of a carved house post, Bosman village.

Drawn following a 1980 field trip, but the post dates from a much earlier era.

Owned by Sor of Goinbang village, a man of approximately 60 years.

Canoe paddles from the Goam River, made by the Kominimung people. Designs are stained on natural wood using tree sap, and represents clan emblems of the owners.

Enlarged motif from the tip of a canoe paddle (see preceding entry) from the Goam River area.

Motifs are stained in black onto natural wood with a water-resistant tree sap. The short length of the handle on this paddle indicates that it was a woman’s possession.
